I've been frustrated with only being able to post tiny photos here, so I tried like heck to figure out how to just edit the template I was using before (loved it!), but I failed in doing so.
Instead, we're trying this one on for a while. I don't love the bright white, but I do love being able to post larger photos like these:
Despite the incessant talk about globalization bringing people and places together, the globalization of food production has rendered Americans deeply disconnected from what they eat. A trip to the local supermarket makes this painfully clear: how often do you really know where your food comes from, how it was produced, and what it even contains? Supermarket labels tell us one thing, and one thing alone: the price. Eating without knowing, or eating without thinking, we believe, is like eating without tasting or smelling - and usually makes for a bad meal.
Therefore, at Local Okra, we're interested in cooking with both knowledge and love. This means understanding where and how our food came to us. This means understanding what impact our food has on both our bodies and our world, and making choices for sustainability. But most of all, it means eating and cooking delicious food that brings people together.
Kelli & Tore live in the college town of Athens, GA. They are newlyweds who enjoy cooking and entertaining friends. Kelli manages rental properties and has a wedding photography business. Tore is working on a PhD in history and his work has a strong emphasis on food and agriculture. They garden and compost. They (well, mostly Tore) brew their own beer. They have two dogs and four cats and wish they had some chickens.
